Bow Push Ups

A lot of strength and coordination in your bow hand will be required for producing a nice sound when playing; overall sound will improve, as well as, reducing the number of squeaks you hear as you play. Luckily, there is an easy way to get that strength —lots of bow strengthening and coordination exercises.

This exercise mimics a normal push up, except with your hand instead of your entire body. Take a pen or pencil and hold it in your bow hand exactly like you would hold the bow. Then practice bending the largest knuckles down and back up working on keeping everything else straight and relaxed. If you do this multiple times a day for several weeks, you will build enough strength and coordination to have a great bow hold and make a great sound.
