Canon in D - Part 1

This is the beginning version of Canon in D and it will sound a little different than the more advanced version. The focus of Canon in D is to have beautiful and smooth legato bows. The goal is to have the notes that are long, smooth and beautiful.

Tips for reading music the first time or sight reading.

Take a look at the notes and general feel for the piece of music. Notice the key signature of the piece of music and notice the general tempo of the piece. In some audition situations, students may need to sight read music to show that they have good playing skills. Sight reading is different than carefully reading the notes. After taking a stab at sight reading it may be a good idea to go home and work on breaking it up into different sections and carefully reading and learning the notes.

Go through the piece of music and learn the notes. As you practice, double check your technique and make sure the technique is correct while playing this piece of music. Check for the following:

Left-hand thumb is in-between the two finger tapes.

Thumbs on both hands are curved into a C shape.

Hold the violin with the chin, not the wrist.

Keep the left wrist straight.

Make sure the right-hand bow hand is holding the bow in the correct shape.
